Course Information:
This course will provide education on the code assignments for cardiac catheterizations in CPT. Within some facility policies, these CPT codes may not be assigned directly by the coding staff. In some settings, these CPT codes may be assigned through the computerized ChargeMaster and it may be a coding professional’s responsibility to verify the codes. This training would be appropriate for those assigning and/or verifying CPT cardiac catheterization codes. For accurate coding, disease process and the anatomy of the major coronary arteries and branches are presented. Common procedures that may be part of cardiac catheterization are discussed, and the definition and type of cardiac catheterization are included. Selected CPT coding guidelines are presented, including the specific codes pertinent to the topic. Note that CPT codes specific to congenital defects are not covered in this course. For those using these codes, please refer to those guidelines/codes that have a separate set of guidelines and codes that include advancing the catheter to the normal/abnormal connections. These are self-explanatory and one may study these beyond this training. The CPT Guidelines are included in this training - always check CMS, Local Coverage Determination (LCD), and/or other payer policies. This course provides 1 approved AAPC CEU and can be used towards 1 AHIMA CEU | Duration 1 hour.
Course Learning Objectives:

- State the various percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) used for treatment
