This Learning Path explores topics in sections other than the Medical and Surgical section, highlighting the Imaging section for Radiology coding and the Extracorporeal or Systemic Assistance and Performance section for Mechanical Ventilation and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) coding. ICD-10-PCS conventions and applicable Coding Clinic guidance will be included. This learning path provides 1 CEU Certificate toward 1 AHIMA CEU | Duration: 1 hour.

LP Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the structure of PCS codes in the Imaging section 
  • Discuss the development of policies for Radiology coding including the assignment of contrast materials and which procedures will be chargemaster driven vs coded by coding personnel 
  • Highlight the importance of reviewing the entire radiology report vs the heading for accurate Imaging code assignment  
  • Describe the coding of endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation procedures and how to calculate time for these procedures 
  • Determine the correct coding for mechanical ventilation in given circumstances 
  • Describe the procedures involved in Intubated Prone Positioning and how this is coded in ICD-10-PCS
